We work small, we work independently, and we work in the UK. Three things amongst many, which we are passionate about.
Jewellery bought from Comfort Station is jewellery made in our studio at 22 Cheshire Street. And that’s made as in, drawn, designed, built, assembled, shaped, engraved, fitted, drilled, clamped, soldered, polished, oxidised, gold-plated, pierced, pieced together, and boxed- all in our studio. This means that we can alter things to fit you pretty much on the spot, we can change something to gold-plated in a matter of minutes sometimes not days. We can add, remove, shorten, lengthen or change a finish on a piece to get it looking just right in a personalised service that just isn’t possible when things are made overseas.
We work in a striped jewellery studio below the store, a netherworld of tools and equipment where the magic happens. We make individual orders up in the studio as well as large wholesale orders for trade clients spanning the globe. On any given day we are probably working on replenishing stock, working on a bespoke wedding piece, fulfilling a wholesale store's order, squeezing in an urgent last-minute request, not to mention designing the next collection. The Comfort Station studio is a busy place to be.
We keep things local and what we don't make in our studio we get made by one of our trusted skilled outworkers based in the UK. We try to keep a low environmental footprint. Our ceramics packaging for instance, is all made in the UK even down to the tape we use on the mug boxes. Our ceramics themselves are made entirely in the potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, thus supporting one of the few remaining factories based in the traditional heart of the British pottery industry. Our paper bags and jewellery boxes are made in uncoated paper so that they can be recycled, unlike much luxury packaging.
We've been working this way for the past 13 years at Cheshire Street and are very much looking forward to the next 13.
